In a context where hybrid and multicloud environments are the new norm, business leaders face a central challenge: how to ensure visibility, control and resilience in an increasingly fragmented digital ecosystem?
The State of Network Security 2025 study identified 8 trends that reflect the main priorities and concerns of organizations in the face of the increasing complexity of the digital landscape. These trends should be on the radar of any CEO, CFO or Head of IT who wants to protect their business’s critical infrastructure in the digital future.

1. The evolution of firewalls: more vendors, more complexity
Organizations are adopting multicloud and hybrid cloud strategies, which has led to the proliferation of firewall solutions from multiple vendors. While this increases flexibility and resilience, it also presents significant operational challenges. Without centralized orchestration, there are risks of inconsistent security policies and compliance gaps. By 2025, 13.4% of organizations reported having no cloud presence, up from 7.1% in 2024 — reflecting a renewed preference for on-premises firewalls due to regulatory requirements and data sovereignty concerns.
2. Cloud Firewalls: the new security standard
With the growing migration to multicloud environments, traditional firewalls have become insufficient. Cloud-native solutions like Azure Firewall are becoming the new standard, thanks to their scalability, AI integration, and compliance automation.
Azure Firewall now leads the market with 43.7% adoption by 2025, surpassing Palo Alto Networks (39.7%).
3. Cloud platforms: security as a decisive factor
Azure and AWS dominate the cloud market, but security has become a key criterion in platform selection. Native integration with SIEM, identity, and compliance tools makes Azure particularly attractive. Its strong integration with Active Directory and Microsoft Sentinel provides organizations with a unified ecosystem for management, security, and visibility.
4. SD-WAN: A changing competitive landscape
With remote work and distributed workloads on the rise, SD-WAN is emerging as the most effective solution for secure connectivity. Fortinet has emerged as a leader, thanks to its integration of networking and security. The global SD-WAN market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 31% to reach $59 billion by 2032.
5. SASE: slow but inevitable growth
The Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) model continues to expand, albeit cautiously. The complexity of its implementation—uniting security and WAN functions into a single service—still limits full adoption. In 2025, 40% of enterprises still had no SASE solution in place, although that number is down from 45.7% in 2024.
6. Zero-Trust: from aspirational concept to real practice
Despite the widespread recognition of the “never trust, always verify” model, its full implementation is still rare. Most organizations are implementing multifactor authentication, network segmentation, and identity control, but few are able to apply these principles across the board. Only 12.2% report having a fully implemented Zero-Trust architecture.
7. AI in network security: great potential, but slow integration
Artificial Intelligence is already transforming threat detection, but it still faces significant barriers: lack of integration, privacy concerns, and limited visibility into cloud applications. Most organizations focus on use cases such as anomaly detection and real-time alerts. However, 55% of companies say they are not prepared to face AI-powered threats.
8. Automation: the new ally of scalable security
Automation is taking center stage in orchestrating security policies, optimizing firewalls, and managing connectivity. However, integration with DevOps and automated compliance is still in its infancy. Organizations that invest in automation across the entire lifecycle—from development to operations—will be better positioned to respond to threats and scale securely and efficiently.
These eight trends reveal that network security is no longer just a technical issue: it is a strategic priority that directly impacts business continuity, customer trust, and innovation capacity. Organizations that adopt cloud-native solutions with centralized visibility, automation, and artificial intelligence will be better prepared to face the challenges of the next digital decade.
